A film shot deep in the desert, on an extremely tight deadline

A shoot in the Bardenas Reales desert with several influencers for Paco Rabanne and its Phantom fragrance. Between the tight timing, staging an evening event in the middle of the desert and a shoot carrying its own constraints, the project had to be organised to the millimetre.

The stage for the evening seen from a drone

Context

Paco Rabanne set out to shoot deep in the desert for the launch of its Phantom fragrance. The shoot mobilised several separate teams, one handling the filming, the other the event. Around 50 people were involved.

The constraint

The deadline was simple: four weeks, covering pre-production, production and delivery. Most of the crew flew in from France, with the added job of looking after Rabanne's teams, an agency, and influencers arriving from different corners of the world.

What we did

Arranging the various flights, train journeys, vehicle hire on site, the accommodation and the hotel booked for the evening event. The suppliers for the evening: DJ, caterer, lighting and sound rigging. The suppliers for the shoot: specialist drone pilots, camera operators, production assistants, editors on site. Juggling the constraint of daytime heat for the crews against the cold of the desert at night. Working with the hotel and the caterer so the two could share the kitchen. Checking on the setup for the evening while the shoot was still running. All of it delivered in just 3 days, with 3 weeks of preparation.

What we ruled out

What was set aside, given the time constraints, were a number of options: further entertainment during the evening, and more coverage of the shoot itself.
